Long weekend

I had a long weekend. I helped my husband cleared up and organized our shed. We also fixed our plumbing. I can say that it wasn't easy. We had to go under our house to do it. Feeling tired

Not a single trick or treater

How was your Halloween? To my surprise, not a single trick or treater knocked on our house. I had a big bowl of candies waiting for kids to come and say "trick or treat", but no one came over. I was excited for my little guy to give out some candies as it's his first Halloween. I guess, the kids probably nobody is at home. Porch light was on. They probably didn't get the hint. Anyhow, I told my stepson to share and give our candies to his friends. So, they had a candy party last weekend. It was fun watching them having fun.

Halloween

Are you ready for Halloween? I don't really care for Halloween, it's no big deal to me. Back in the days in P.I. my family observe the "All Saint's Day and All Soul's Day". These are the days after Halloween. I didn't grow up participating on Halloween that much. I was wondering how Halloween got started. So, I researched on the net (Internet has become my library now!) and found out that Halloween originated back more than 2,000 years. The Europe's Celtic people celebrated their New Year's Day on November 1, called Samhain (SAH-win). The night before Samhain, people thought spirits, Fairies, demons, and other creatures were to walk the Earth as they traveled to the afterlife. They sacrificed animals to the gods by gathering around bonfires. And they wore animal skin costumes and wearing masks to confuse spirits, perhaps to avoid being possessed. Moreover, the Celts costumed as spirits are believed to have gone from house to house engaging in silly acts in exchange for food and drink, which is the "trick-or-treating" now.

Then, Samhain was later adopted by Catholic for pagan holidays. And In the seventh century Pope Boniface IV decreed November 1 All Saints' Day, or All Hallows' Day. The night before Samhain continued to be observed with bonfires, costumes, and parades, under a new name: All Hallows' Eve—later "Halloween."

The Dancing House

Eyes

We need to take care of our eyes. Sometimes, we take eyes for granted-- we tend to always focus on our face. There are ways to have healthier eyes. There are many people who are striving to lose weight. I am not against it, in fact, it is good to be in shape and physically fit. I am not big but I still need to be physically fit so to speak. I'd like to share some tips on how to lose weight, aside from taking diet pills.

• Eat more vegetables and fruits every day.
• Eat enough portion every meal
• No, no, don't skip meal. Never do that. Especially, breakfast which is the most important meal of the day. It keeps you going throughout the day.
  
• Avoid too much sugar like soda
• Avoid eating junk foods
  
• And lastly exercise regularly.

Wow, time actually runs fast. Today is the 2nd day of August. Why August is the 8th month of the year? I was just wondering how people came up with Month names. Let's start with August. It is the 8th month of the Gregorian calendar. In Astrology, August begins with the sun in the sign of Leo and ends in the sign of Virgo. This month was originally named "Sextilis" in Latin because it was in the first place, the sixth month in the ancient Roman calendar in which started with March. Then it later became the eighth month when January and February were added to the beginning of the year. August was renamed in honor of Augustus. Actually, August originally had 29 days in the Roman calendar. Augustus took two days from February and added it to August when Sextilis was renamed in his honor. Sounds interesting huh?

He challenged Claudius and sustained to perform marriages for young lovers in secret. When Valentine's dealings were revealed. Claudius ordered that Valentine be put to death. During the days that Valentine was in jailed, he fell in love with the blind daughter of his warden. He miraculously heal her from her blindness because of his love for her and great faith to God. Before his death, he sent her a letter saying, "From your Valentine." The phrase has been used on his day ever since.
